a good movie , very good acting, good suspens, nothing very original but 1Hour 40 of cinema well done I liked this one very correct

I still wonder why there are so few horror flicks about sleep paralysis...

A movie with a great pace to watch, and despite not being at all original in its theme, the story has a good structure, developing very well, winning the viewer over by the investigation that takes place, and by the good scary scenes, some of which are more distressing. The performances are solid and do what is necessary for the movie to unfold well, maintaining the feeling of fear and curiosity.

*The Ring* meets *A Nightmare of Elm Street*. A take on sleep paralysis, sleep deprevation and people going nuts on what's real and what's not. It's not as cool as it sounds though, it's nothing we haven't seen before and brings nothing new. The only sleep paralysis scene I enjoyed was the one at the beginning of the third act, the others were mediocre. Cool look for the sleep demon Mara she was creepy as hell towards the end. Acting was fine, weak scares, story was lacking, it got sooo clichรฉ real quick but the worst crime was the pacing.

Spoilers

The ending was quite obvious in a way but kind of wasted the story.

The mythology behind the film was pure hokum, but despite the ridiculous story, this actually managed to keep me awake for the entire running time. Not bad for a film about people experiencing evil while in a deep sleep state!

Mara is a poorly made and uninspired rote horror film. The story follows a forensic psychologist named Kate Fuller who comes to believe that a sleep demon named Mara is responsible for a series of bizarre murders and begins to work with a former vet to find a way to stop her. Olga Kurylenko is horribly miscast and isnโ€™t the least bit believable as a forensic psychologist. And the director pulls out every hackney clichรฉ and trope in the book, making the film look desperate. Completely ineffective, Mara isnโ€™t at all frightening and doesnโ€™t deliver any scares (even the jump scares are lame).

THIS MOVIE IS AWESOME AND WAY MORE ACCURATE AND BASE ON A REAL ISSUE THAN THE GRUDGE ARE THE RING COULD EVER BE. I HAVE SUFFERED WITH THIS SAME PARALYSED CONDITION FROM BEING A CHILD AND DESCRIBED THE EXACT SAME DETAILS AD IN THE FILM AND THIS WAS 45 YEARS AGO SO I''M A MASSIVE LOVER OF THIS EXCELLENT MOVIE FOR ME IT''S A 10/10 I''VE STUDIE AND LOOKED INTO THIS AND YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE AND DO SUFFER THIS AROUND THE WORLD, IT''S A SERIOUSLY COMMON ISSUE. AND BEEN AROUND AS LONG AS WELL HUMANS GAVE REQUIRED SLEEP. THANK GOD I DON''T SUFFER NOW FROM IT AS AN ADULT AS I HAVE LEARNT CERTAIN TECHNIQUES OVER MANY YEARS PLUS I HARDLY EVER SLEEP. REAL BAD INSOMNIA, hm I wonder why. BUT BELIEVE ME I''M NOT ALONE AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF PEOPLE SINCE THE DAWN OF HUMANITY CAN''T BE WRONG. BEWARE THE SHADOW MEN Fantastic to see a movie done on it. And done so well.

Pretty poor to be fair. Wish I''d slept through it.

Wasnโ€™t brilliant, wasnโ€™t awful. Itโ€™s a similar plot thatโ€™s been done so many times. However, the suspense etc was not to bad and I think this would be scary to lots of people.

A movie centered around a criminal investigation but nobody in this production was bothered to do any research on how a criminal investigation is done. I don't know either, but I know suspects are not left standing unguarded at the crime scene, they are entitled lawyers and that criminal psychologists don't assume the paranormal rather than the one obvious suspect. And shouldn't she be doing criminal psychologist stuff and understand the mind of the suspect rather than jumping into her parallel police investigation where she stumbles across all the crucial information that the asshole police detective is missing? And being a psychologist she has never heard about sleep paralysis? Well, it seems the leader of the support group too has a casual understanding on the subject. I went in because it was supposed to have an original approach to sleep paralysis but I can't say there was much original about it. Once it was going it was pretty much the expected derivative exposition, the usual dark filter digital effects, and of course the twitchy raspy klicky anorexic spooky ghost lady being popularised by J-horror some thirty years ago. And the narrative driven by the main character tiresomely (heh) talking through everything. I pretty quickly went skipping forward through it because it is garbage. Garbage script, garbage production, garbage jump scares and by all my nightly demons that is some garbage vanity movie level acting all over. Don't bother. There is nothing original to see here.

I'm a fan of Olga Kurylenko. I first saw her in _Hitman_ (and she's a big part of why I like that movie) then a few more times before watching her steal the show in _Centurion_. So when I heard that there was going to be a Kurylenko-led horror movie in 2018 I was on board. Then it turned out Craig Conway was in it too! That cemented it for me, there was no way I was gonna miss _Mara_. And even though they're both good in this, I probably should have been paying less attention to the fact that I like two of the actors in this movie, and more attention to something like, say, the plot synopsis, because _Mara_ is just one in a recent slew of practically identical (and never very good) horror movies about sleep paralysis. Maybe it's a touch more competently made than most of the others, but it's still as banal as any of them. _Final rating:โ˜…โ˜… - Had some things that appeal to me, but a poor finished product._
